DENVER POST – Best Bets / by Monique Crine

A lens, then brush

Today. Painting and photography. Monique Crine’s hyper-realistic portraits look like photographs, and many of them are. But in certain cases, she has translated the images into paintings. It is not clear how the Denver artist chooses what subjects will receive what treatment, and she seems to like the ambiguity that results. Her works are on view through Aug. 20 in a solo exhibition at Hinterland, an alternative gallery at 3254 Walnut St. The show will be open 6 to 9 p.m. today or otherwise by appointment.
